Meet author Cristina Ryan

Cristina Ryan lives with her Marine Corp. veteran husband and an entertaining clan of pets. It takes a major sense of humor and a warm heart to fall in love, so those are the kinds of love stories she pens. Cristina also writes YA Christian Suspense as Krista Wagner.

Tell us about your newest book, When Sparks Fly

Dustin, a single dad with a charming little girl, falls for Katrina whose love of video games helps bring them together. But when Katrina gets hired by Dustin’s arch enemy, wounds of past relationships surface. A friends-to-lovers romance full of drama, comedy, and two people risking a second chance at love.

What inspired you to write your story?

I wanted to write something fun, yet with a bit of heartbreak, that involved two people who mutually enjoy the same thing-playing video games, a sweet little girl, and a father who can find love after being betrayed.

What genre do you focus on.

Clean romance, because the sweetness and heartfelt stories bring us closer to God and to each other.

Why do you write?

I love inspiring hope in others, even through more difficult or challenging situations.

Who is your main character, and how did you choose that name?

Dustin-I’d heard it before, but it’s not very common.

What is your work schedule like when you’re writing a book?

Off Sundays and Mondays, writing a chapter a week.

What is the hardest part of being an author?

It takes a lot of time and rewriting. Why? Nora Ephron once said, “The hardest part of writing is writing”. Being able to reach the reader just right, the precision of a sentence, takes a special focus.

What’s the best part of your author’s life?

Being able to share so many stories and characters and themes. Why? You never know who you might affect.

What’s one thing your readers should know about you?

I love exploring relatable themes, like overcoming pain or challenges, being able to laugh again, to believe in love, to never give up.

How have you changed or grown as a writer?

I’ve enjoyed crafting stories over a variety of tropes, which means more exciting plots. But I’ve also gone deeper into my characters and I’m starting to write longer stories.

What is your favorite pastime?

Reading

Do you have other books? We’d love to know.

Yes. Outside of The New Beginnings Series, I have several standalone novels. Most of them are romcoms, but I also have a Christian protector romance that deals with a Marine who saves a woman from her abusive boyfriend, as well as a second chance marriage, where the couple painfully separates after having two miscarriages.

What are you working on now?
