Meet author Tanya Eavenson

Tanya Eavenson is an award-winning Christian romance novelist who writes heartfelt stories of love, faith, and second chances. Her historical romance The Rescue, from the All Roads Lead to Texas series, won the 2018 Cascade Award, and the series has gone on to be a finalist for several awards. Tanya and her husband have been in Christian ministry for twenty-seven years teaching youth and adults. Although she doesn’t consider herself a speaker, she loves to share her testimony, her faith, her writing journey, and her love for Christ with churches and women’s groups. When she’s not writing, she enjoys spending time with family.

Tell us about your newest book. I’d love to share about Until I Knew You!

Photographer Jacob Michaels has spent his life running, from foster homes, from emotional attachment, from anything that asks more of him than a fleeting moment through his camera lens, except for Clay Logan, his one true friend and the only person who ever saw past the walls.

Olivia Logan lives in a world of color and quiet, expressing through art what words cannot, and Clay understood her without explanation, offering a steady presence in a world that often feels overwhelming. But when a hiking trip ends in tragedy and Jacob returns alone, everything changes, and Clay’s final request becomes Jacob’s new reality: take care of Olivia, protect her, don’t walk away. Now her legal trustee, Jacob steps into a life he never intended. Bound by grief and a promise neither asked for, he and Olivia are drawn into a fragile closeness they don’t know how to navigate. And perhaps God isn’t finished mending what was never meant to be broken.

What inspired you to write your story?

I truly believe the Lord placed Olivia and Jacob’s story on my heart more than eight years ago. It became the story I always returned to, even after starting and stopping several times to write other books along the way. No matter how much time passed, Olivia and Jacob were always with me.

There was such a longing to tell their story, yet for years I felt it wasn’t time. Looking back now, I understand why. I needed time to grow as a writer and to interview others who worked with those on the spectrum. But it also gave me time to really understand my characters, to know them intimately, to feel their struggles, their fears, their faith, and their healing, so that they would come alive to readers. It’s strange in some ways, carrying a story in your heart for so long, but now that Until I Knew You is finally published, I can say the waiting mattered, and I give God all the glory.

What genre do you focus on.

I primarily write Christian romance, both contemporary and historical, because as a reader myself, I love reading in the genres that I write.

Why do you write?

I write because I want readers to know that no matter where they’ve been or what they’ve been through, there is always hope, and His name is Jesus. That message is at the heart of every story I write. One of my recent reviews for Until I Knew You said this: “I also love how Tanya weaves the plan of salvation throughout all her books, as no one is beyond the forgiveness of God.” That is exactly why I write. Stories stay with people, and if the Lord can use my words to point even one person toward His love, grace, and forgiveness, what more can I want.

Who is your main character, and how did you choose that name?

My main character is an autistic woman named Olivia Logan. I chose the name Olivia because I’ve always thought it was such a beautiful name. There was something soft and timeless about it that seemed to fit her perfectly from the very beginning.

What is your work schedule like when you’re writing a book?

I’m a “Pantser” through and through, someone who writes by the seat of their pants. Honestly, I don’t write by a daily word count, I tend to focus more on my word count for the week or month. Some days the words flow easily and I’ll write for hours, while other days are slower and more focused on thinking through scenes, emotions, and character development.

What is the hardest part of being an author?

The hardest part about being an author is finding enough time to write. I work for a non-profit, help new writers and authors find their footing with marketing, and teach marketing classes for both a university and writing conferences, so life stays pretty busy. But I truly believe that if you’re called to do something, the Lord will make a way.

What is your favorite pastime? Eating chocolate and reading.

Do you have other books? We’d love to know.

I do! I’ve written thirteen contemporary and historical romance novels, along with several non-fiction titles. Some of my non-fiction books include guides for authors on establishing a strong author platform. I’ve also created themed weekly to do lists and journals designed for writers, creatives, and really anyone wanting to become more productive while adding a little whimsy and inspiration to their daily routines.

What are you working on now?

Right now I’m working on an author series called Apron Strings Tea Tales, set during the Great Depression. It’s described as “a glimmer of fairytale, a spoonful of history, and a teacup of hope,” which perfectly captures the heart of the series. My story is called “Goldilocks’ Choice” and is set to release at the end of December 2026 for the New Year. I’m especially excited about this story because I’m using the book of Ruth from the Bible as inspiration for it. There’s something beautiful about Ruth’s loyalty, faith, and quiet strength, and weaving those themes into a fairytale-inspired historical story will be a lot of fun. And alongside the novel, though not directly associated with the series, I’m also working on a Bible study inspired by the story. I can’t wait to see how it all turns out!
